Top Things To Know
1) New DBO Walk of Fame Member
2011 Delray Beach Open champion Juan Martin del Potro was inducted into the tournament's Walk of Fame on Friday night following his Legends doubles match. The Argentine played the DBO five times and is tied for sixth in all-time match wins with 14. He won the 2009 US Open and reached the final there again in 2018, and won a total of 22 singles titles. He led Argentina to its first Davis Cup in 2016 and is a two-time Olympic medalist. Later this week, Taylor Fritz and Kei Nishikori also will be inducted into the Delray Beach Open Walk of Fame following their first matches.
2) First-Time DBO Legends
The Delray Beach Open Legends event is now in its 16th year and runs through Sunday. This year brings new legends Juan Martin del Potro, Ryan Harrison, Xavier Malisse and Steve Johnson to join past participants Bob and Mike Bryan, Murphy Jensen, Sam Querrey, Tommy Haas, Jesse Levine and Scoville Jenkins. That group represents Grand Slam, Delray Beach Open and Olympic champions. Legendary.
3) (Un)Qualified Success
Two qualifying rounds will be contested Saturday and Sunday, with four qualifiers moving on to the main draw. Qualifiers have a strong history of success in past Delray Beach Opens. Three times in the previous 32 editions of the tournament a qualifier has won the title (including Kei Nishikori, who is in this year's main draw), four times a qualifier has been runner-up, and 13 times a qualifier has reached the semifinals.
4) Qualifying Draw Full of Champions
Included in the qualifying field is 2019 Delray Beach Open champion Radu Albot, two-time USTA 18s champion Zachary Svajda, 2023 NCAA singles champion for Georgia Ethan Quinn, and 2023 NCAA doubles champion for Ohio State James Trotter.
5) Main Draw to be Made on Saturday
Main draw matches begin Monday, and the draw will be made Saturday morning. The top four seeds - No. 1 Taylor Fritz, No. 2 Tommy Paul, No. 3 Alex Michelsen and No. 4 Matteo Arnaldi - will receive first-round byes, while 28 other competitors will place first-round matches.
